Newmarket Academy GCSE results have risen again – the sixth year in succession.
Dragons Den 2017
"Dragons Den" at Newmarket Academy. Last week students presented to the "Dragons" from the Newmarket Festival to bid for funds to support their perosnal development and their involvement in the wider community. A range of students from years 7-11 made initial applications to the Principal who short-listed the applications down to 13. Each applicant designed a presentation and spoke for five minutes before taking questions from the Dragons. Applications ranged from lathes and engineering equipment to bell ropes to support Exning Church Bell Ringer Society. other bids sought sponsorship for swimming equipment, 1st Aid equipment, flying equipment, lessons and computer software.
The strengths of the successful bids lay in their evidence of how the bid would support their own personal development and allow them to make a greater contribution to the community.
Over £4500 was donated in straight cash donations, matched funding and in a number of cases goods in kind and opportunities to raise even more funds supported by a local retailer. Students was asked to return to the Dragons in six months to report on their progress.
The quality of presentations were excellent and the students all impressed the Dragons.
